The Village Deià, Majorca

The village of Deià, in Mallorca, is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana, in a marvellous enclave dotted with green crags and next to the Mediterranean Sea. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.

It is one of the places where artists from all over the world have found and continue to find inspiration for their work or to live.

Deiá accumulates a lot of rainwater, which means that a torrent runs through the village, and there are several fountains in the surrounding area. The landscapes of olive trees, holm oaks and pines are a marvel in these surroundings.

Famous people such as the writer Robert Graves, whose house can be visited, the musicians Mike Oldfield, Andrew Lloyd Webber or some of the members of the Corrs have chosen Deià as a refuge, attracted by the relaxed life and the beauty of the surroundings.

The cemetery of Deià, located at the highest point of the village, has excellent views of the valley and the Mediterranean. It is situated next to the old parish church of San Juan Bautista, which in turn incorporates a defence tower that has served as a bell tower since the 16th century. In this cemetery we can find the tomb of the British writer Robert Graves, a place visited by countless of his followers.

It is worth climbing the steep streets of Deià to reach the top and enjoy the panoramic view.
